You will see the Chauvigny family’s coat of arms in several places around town. Its traditional French heraldic description is:
D’argent à cinq fusées et deux demies de gueules, au lambel d’azur à six pendants.
In plain English: a silver shield with five red elongated diamonds and two half-diamonds, beneath a blue label with six pendants.

Chauvigny, it’s raining knights!

Legend links the family motto to André I de Chauvigny, nicknamed “the bravest of the brave”. Stories of his exploits during the Crusades include a duel with Saladin and enemies fleeing with the cry “It’s raining knights!” These are legendary accounts rather than established details of his life.
