Here is an idea for a day in Chauvigny. Adapt it to your interests and check opening times and show schedules before setting out.
1. Start with the Géants du Ciel bird show or a ride on the Vélo-rail rail bikes. On a hot day, you will appreciate an early start. For the Vélo-rail, park on site. For the bird show, use Parking de Bretagne or park in the lower town and walk uphill for about seven to eight minutes. A shuttle also operates in summer.
2. Visit Château d’Harcourt on your way into the medieval town.
3. Stop for lunch at one of Chauvigny’s restaurants.
4. Climb the Donjon de Gouzon for views over the town.
5. Explore Saint-Pierre collegiate church, a gem of Romanesque art.
6. Depending on the programme, enjoy a performance at La Grange aux Loups, the Géants du Ciel show or a Vélo-rail ride if you missed it earlier.
7. Take a break with an artisan ice cream, a waffle or a homemade crêpe.
8. Visit Le Clou, a community and cultural venue in a beautiful 17th-century building.
9. Browse the local craft shops and wander through the medieval lanes.
10. Head home with tired feet and plenty of good memories!
